Ursula K. Le Guin, the immensely popular author who brought a tough-minded feminine sensibility to science fiction and fantasy, died at 88. Her books mattered tremendously to me when I was young. Her writing was powerful and gave me hope and dreams.

LeGuin was one of the (female) authors I read as a child/teen who - especially in hindsight - gave me pause to think that females were a big part of the world. Her writing was awesome and master of the language and the stories... It would be wonderful if her stories could be filmed as other scifi stories that are making their debut now on various platforms. I mean, Phillip K Dick and Heinlein have been staples for long, there is no reason that LeGuin wouldn't have been as successful in the movie world too - or can be. I'll keep dreaming. And miss her. Will add some of her books as rereads for 2018 for sure.
