    Kind of reminds me of the quote from Jane Wagner's "The Search for Signs of Intelligent Life in the Universe":
    "All my life I've wanted to be somebody. Now I see I should have been more specific."

    Methinks a certain someone has gotten his wish to be someone though direly neglected to be more specific. Unlike the character in the play, however, he remains blithely untroubled by this or any information that introspection might provide.

      Pretty sure Douglas Adams had our current situation in mind when he wrote this:
      "It is a well-known fact that those people who must want to rule people are, ipso facto, those least suited to do it... anyone who is capable of getting themselves made President should on no account be allowed to do the job."
